Who We Are

Angi
Angi founded Duirwaigh Gallery in 1997 and took it to the internet in 1999. She handles all of the artist content in the gallery and publishing divisions of Duirwaigh. Her favorite song is 'Somewhere Over the Rainbow' sung by Judy Garland but she loves taking her mother to Kid Rock concerts. Go figure. While she does not own a pair of ruby slippers, she does spend a lot of time over the rainbow. She's got the biggest blog mouth on this site, so hopefully you enjoy her. If not, give it time. She'll grow on you. Like fungus.

Silas
Silas joined Duirwaigh in 2003 and is responsible for making us look pretty. He is to Duirwaigh's website what Kevyn Oucoin is to the supermodel elite. If only we could get him to stop pasting false eyelashes on our monitors. (They're so sticky!) If you find yourself going 'ooooooo' and 'ahhhhh' or sitting for long periods of time staring at the Duirwaigh website, it's all Silas's fault. When he's not furiously whipping us into a state of runway beauty, he is composing symphonies, painting, or playing the drums. He likes crepes, German beer, prog rock, wiener schnitzel and Angi. Just not all at the same time.

Mernie
Mernie joined Duirwaigh in 2000 because Angi whimpered and whined. A lot. Mernie gave birth to Angi, so you could say it's a family thang. Or you could just say she caved in when Angi poured on the puppy dog eyes every time she had to load up packages for the post office in her tiny Acura. While she wears many hats at Duirwaigh, Mernie's favorite is the Sleeping Hat. Right after that is the Laughing Hat. So if you've never followed Uncle Remus's advice and found your Laughing Place, just ask Mernie. She's got the map.

Kim
Kim followed us home one day when we'd been on a walkabout through wonderland. We decided to keep her. If you've called your order into the Duirwaigh office, and someone with a summer-filled accent answered your ring, that was Kim. She does just about everything for Duirwaigh, because Mernie, Angi and Silas are too busy goofing off. We call her the Box Whisperer. It's a special talent and we can't go into all that's involved because of its highly classified nature. But let's just say if your packages arrived safely to their destination, it's not because of UPS. The Box Whisperer worked her magic into the ears of your package before it left our headquarters.

The Duirwaigh Brat Pack

Did you know that June 23, 2006 was Take Your Dog To Work Day? It's an annual event every June and studies have shown that businesses that allow pets in the workplace experience lower employee absenteeism, higher morale and increased productivity. In an effort to create the ultimate play/work environment, every day at Duirwaigh is Take Your Dog To Work Day!

When you phone our headquarters and hear insistent howling, it's not because we've indulged with too many margaritas and are searching for a full moon. It's because our canine friends simply will not Sit. Stay. Insistent little boogers! They insist on coming to work. "After all," they bark, "It's For Your Own Good."

Meet the Brat Pack

Name: Tinkerbell
Breed: Brown short haired chihuahua.
Nickname: Tink.
Likes: Sleeping late, grilled cheese sandwiches, high places and Angi. She actually saved Angi's life eight years ago. We'll post that story someday soonish.

Name: Peter Pan
Breed: Blonde short haired chihuahua.
Nickname: Petie, sometimes called 'Pooh' because of his love of food.
Likes: Breakfast, lunch, dinner and elevensies. He's the world's first spherical chihuahua.

Name: Talullah Bankhead
Breed: Dalmation/Pit bull mix. Oh yeah. You heard right. Energy with feet and a tail. Nickname: Tooley.
Likes: Catching tennis balls, chewing frisbees to smithereens and snuggling in small places. Chihuahua small. I kid you not.

Name: Doobey
Breed: Black/tan mixy-thing. We think she's part beagle part dachsund.
Nickname: Miss Doo.
Likes: Swimming pools and movie stars. Her favorite two things are sleeping and Mernie. And sleeping with Mernie. She has a great talent for licking. Anything. Incessantly.

Name: Isabella Fizzywigg Christmas Figgy Pudding
Breed: Long haired chihuahua. Lots of freckles.
Nickname: Izzy or Puss or her Czech name Izilska Pussanova.
Likes: Baked pretzels, riding with the windows down, and infecting anyone with Puss energy. Big eyes, lowered ears, sad puss. Gets us every time. Secret ambition? To take over the world, one puss at a time. It's working.

Our intention:

While our focus is to celebrate and support mythopoetic and fairytale art in our gallery and publishing divisions, the spirit behind the Duir is non-segregated. We want to include everyone who has a hunger in our Inspiration Feast. It is more important to unlock the doors of Imagination and boldly go into the lands of Awe, than it is to name and define that Awe. The young priest in Chocolat says it best: "We can't measure our goodness by what we don't do, by what we resist and who we exclude. I think we've got to measure goodness by what we embrace, what we create and who we include." 'Nuff said.

What You Can Expect from this Blog a.k.a "Bring it On!"

We'd love to sing and dance for you. Floor shows are our specialty. But since this is a cyber forum, we'll stick to writing and art. We'll attempt to let you know:

  • Little yum yums about our artist goings-on
  • The latest 'behind the duir' news
  • Projects we're working on and/or considering (help us with our decision making skills!)
  • Stories of great interest, anecdotes of obscure interest--This last one is kinda fun. Everytime the 'Duirwaigh Story' is told verbally to an artist, friend or publisher someone invariably says "This HAS to be a book! You MUST write this down. It's better than OPERA!!" So that's exactly what Angi is doing. Very slowly. Some of the short snippets from that assignment will appear on this website.

What You Cannot Expect from this Blog a.k.a. "Don't Even Go There!"

  • Political correctness
  • Answers to every post
  • Consistency (We'll try. Just don't count on it)
  • Flames (We won't show up with a lot of anger. Please respond in kind.)
  • Boredom (It's not allowed on this site. It's cousin, Tedium, is banned as well.)

The ideas and content on this site is personal to each author's post. This is a 'family circle' kind of a blog-thing. It's like you're coming into our living room to share a lemonade and some pork rinds. So the opinions are frank and unedited, and unaffiliated with Duirwaigh, Inc. You can expect us to be sensitive, but please do not expect us to be politically correct.
